The City of Minneapolis has released a Draft of the Bicycle Master Plan. This plan represents a significant effort by Minneapolis Public Works to guide the investment in bicycle facilities for at least the next decade. The most significant part of the plan is Chapter 7, where all of the projects are separated into Tier1 and Tier 2 projects, Tier 1 projects being the ones that the City will most aggressively pursue in the upcoming years. Net Density has a great post with a map of the Tier 1 projects.
The City is planning five open houses throughout the months of August and September, and all public input must be received by October 1st.
It’s a pretty hefty document and I haven’t had a chance to read through all of it yet. With a casual perusing of the plan, however, I was surprised at the large number of projects the city has identified, but disappointed with the relatively few number that have been identified as Tier 1 projects.
Leave a comment and let me know what you think of the Draft Bicycle Master Plan. What do you think about the ranking system the City is using? What projects are missing from the list?
